Ahu Hanga Tetenga

Te Ara o Te Moai
This Moai might be fallen over during transport. Moais on transport have a D shaped base. Those on a platform are flat. Some scientist believe that the moais where moved by wiggling them to the left and right. There would be 3 teams pulling on ropes attached the eye slit, one left of the moai, one right, and the third one in the back preventing the moai from falling on its face. There is also a word in the Rapa Nui language meaning “walking without feed” which is backing up this theory. Other researches think, they were transported by wooden sledges. I could imagine that several modes of transport existed that evolved over time.
