The days in Santiago I spend mostly researching and preparing the last part of the trip, i.e. the Nasca Lines & Machu Picchu. I also strolled a little bit around in downtown Santiago, and visited the human rights museum. It starts with the coup d’etat that ousted Allende, then explains life during Pinochet’s dictatorship, the way back to democracy, and remembers those that were tortured, killed, or just disappeared. Not a pleasant place, and not an easy topic. It however presents the topic careful and well structured.
As it was Easter, most of the shops were closed. Parks and plaza were buzzing with people.
