The hike from refugio Peine Grande to refugio Grey is the easiest stretch. Only 10 km long, and moderate elevation changes.
The trail goes through an area that was heavily burned by a fire started by a tourist in December 2011. Not much traces are left today. I just found a little grove of burned trees.
The ice field of glacier Grey is huge and the size is impressing – the weather was quite foggy however so I could only guess its full size.
On the way, I met Lars and Steinar. We sat down in the grass, had lunch together, and chatted for about an hour — a really easy-going day. Once I arrived at refugio Grey, it first started raining, and later snowing — I happily spend the rest of the afternoon on a couch near the oven. Here, I met Prof. Maret from the Uni Konstanz again. He explained me his field of research: Applying infrared laser to visualize the upper portions of the human brain up to a depth of 1,5 cm — amazing, amazing what physics and engineering can do.
