The weather improved (thanks Pauline for letting me know), and I rented another 4WD. I made the full loop from south coast to north coast, and driving into the setting sun, I arrived Akana beach just in time.
Road Block
The local indigenous people of Rapa Nui kicked out the official park administration and seized it to give point to their political demands. I understand they want to administer the park themselves. Currently, a nationwide organization in charge for all national parks, CONAF, is handling that. The installed road blocks, but normally let tourists pass.

Ahu Spotting
There are several maps available, and they slightly differ. That makes it cumbersome to spot some of the ahus.
