Travel Day: I returned the rental car thereby looking a little bit around Antofagasta, and then boared the bus for an 8 hour ride to Iquique.
Antofagasta itself is a relatively new town arranged along a checker maze following the coast line. It has a similar shape as Chile: It is long and thin. There is no public transportation system. Hence one pratically always requires a car or a taxi to get around — not that there is to see much. It mainly acts as a gateway to the mines nearby.
