2018-08-18: The Probe too close to ignore

Today’s probe started in Stuttgart, flew an 8-shape patternĀ  and landed about 1 km away from its launch site in a wineyard. The wineyard faces our house and is about 4km in the direct line of sight. I was able to decode the probe even on the ground sitting comfortably in the living room.

Even though I became somewhat reluctant to collect another RS41, it was just too close to not go and to not retrieve it. Felix joined, and 15 minutes later, we found ourselves at the wineyard looking for the probe. We quickly located itĀ  near the decoded position. The high landing speed more than 10 m/s had suggested that the parachute had not deployed. Sure enough, we found the parachute entangled by the rests of the burst balloon.
