I got up early in the morning (the first time without Jim’s lovely voice awaking me over loudspeaker in 2 weeks), and boarded the bus to Punta Arenas. I meet Molly from Hongkong — she is slowly zig-zaging her way up between Chile and Argentina from South to North by bus. And she seems to know all South America Lonley Planets by heart. I am impressed…<\/p>\n

The trip took 10 hours, the distance is 650 km — and the street is called “route del tierno del mundo” or “road of the end of the world”\u00a0 — you probably guessed by now…<\/p>\n

The landscape did not really change between start and end. What changed however is the road condition at the border between Argentina and Chile: In Argentina, it is smooth, paved road. In Chile, it is gravel road with many potholes.<\/p>\n

To cross the Street of Magellan, the bus had to take a ferry. Elegantly and fast swimming dolphins soon accompanied it.<\/p>\n

On the ferry, there were some TVs showing the news — as far as I could gather heavy rain caused large scale damages in the northern region of Chile. Will see how this affects my travel plans to the Atacama.<\/p>\n
