First, we were dropped on Jougla Point, a rocky and in summer, a penguin infested place. On the shore, somebody with lots of time hat some\u00a0 whale bones neatly rearranged. We also found some rusty metal rings (probably from barrels of\u00a0 the whaling days) and a cable.<\/p>\n

We then were shuttled over to Port Lockroy and Base A. Base A was a British overwintering station taking weather measurement and doing research on the ionic layer of the stratosphere. The base was shutdown in 1962, and reopened as a museum in 1996.\u00a0 It was only in 2009 that\u00a0 paintings of an overwintering diesel mechanic, Evan Watson, were rediscovered —\u00a0 the nights were long and cold, and I can clearly see what those British lads\u00a0 had in their mind …. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
